Romania celebrates over 1,300 smart laboratories enhancing education

Romania has surpassed an impressive milestone with the establishment of over 1,300 smart laboratories across the country. This achievement highlights a significant commitment to modernizing education and providing students with access to cutting-edge technologies.

Among these, 1,294 smart laboratories were constructed through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan, demonstrating a strong investment in the future of learning. The journey began seven years ago when INACO launched its first SmartLab, driven by founder Andreea Paul’s vision of integrating technology into education.

The inaugural SmartLab 4.0 opened its doors in 2019 at the Titu Maiorescu School in Bucharest, aiming to give students firsthand experience with advanced educational tools. Notably, the first smart laboratory in a rural area was established at the School in Bucov, showcasing the initiative's reach and inclusivity.

In March 2022, SmartLab received international recognition at Avanti's Awards, affirming its innovative approach to education. The project was also celebrated as a groundbreaking initiative at the BETT event, further solidifying its impact.

The transition from a pilot project to systemic implementation was made possible through European funding, allowing for a significant expansion. Schools using SmartLab report increased student interest in science, technology, and applied vocational training, proving the program’s effectiveness.

High schools in cities like Craiova, Dărmăneşti, Botoşani, and Bacău are already benefiting from SmartLab facilities, fostering a new generation of learners. Looking ahead, INACO plans to focus on training teachers to maximize the potential of these innovative tools.

Andreea Paul emphasized that reaching 1,300 laboratories is not the end of the journey but rather the beginning of a new chapter in educational advancement.
