Celebrating 70 Years of Romania's Journey with UNESCO
A special gala at the Opera Națională București will mark the 70th anniversary of Romania's cooperation with UNESCO this Monday. This event is the centerpiece of the anniversary program 'UNESCO 70 România - Celebrăm trecutul, construim împreună viitorul,' celebrating the rich cultural heritage and future aspirations of the nation.
Romania became a member of UNESCO on July 27, 1956, with the National Commission for UNESCO being established shortly after on September 21, 1956. The gala will bring together representatives from public institutions, academia, culture, and diplomacy, fostering a spirit of collaboration and shared goals.
The evening will feature official speeches, artistic performances, and screenings of films and documentaries. Notably, the gala will open with the film 'Când muzica devine un limbaj al păcii,' setting the tone for a night that intertwines music, contemporary art, and cultural heritage.
The concert will be performed by the Romanian Youth Orchestra, conducted by Constantin Grigore. Notable artists, including soprano Mihaela Hotea and tenor Andrei Mihalcea, will lend their talents to the program, which will showcase works by composers such as W. A. Mozart and G. Puccini.
A commemorative philatelic issue titled 'România - acolo unde tradiția inspiră viitorul' will also be launched, highlighting Romania's intangible cultural heritage recognized by UNESCO. Additionally, the contemporary art exhibition 'Măiastra' will be unveiled, alongside the educational exhibit 'Puntea generațiilor - 70 de ani de educație și știință,' organized by the National Commission.
Documentaries such as 'Călătorie prin geoparcuri' and 'UNESCO România 70' will further enrich the evening, showcasing the country’s commitment to promoting its cultural patrimony both nationally and internationally. This gala not only reflects on Romania's past achievements but also emphasizes the importance of involving youth in UNESCO initiatives and education for sustainable development.
