First Edition of Romania's Parasport Games Celebrates Over 300 Athletes

The inaugural edition of the Parasport Games Romania has just concluded, bringing together over 300 athletes from various disciplines. This milestone event took place in Bucharest from September 1 to 5, showcasing ten different sports under one unified banner for the first time.

Competitions included para canoe, adapted judo, and para archery, with athletes vying for a chance to qualify for the 2028 Paralympic Games in Los Angeles. The para canoe event took place on the picturesque Titan Lake, while adapted judo was held at Sala Olimpia, reflecting a vibrant spirit of competition and camaraderie.

Notable participants included Alexandru Cebotari from the Asociația Club Sportiv Nautic Titanii, and world champion Cătălin Chirilă. Dublu Olympic champion Toma Simionov also added prestige to the event. In judo, Alexandru Bologa secured a gold medal, while Andrei Slătaru achieved a similar honor at the Grand Slam in Lausanne.

The competition served as a vital platform for athletes to showcase their skills and strive for qualification points, which will be determined through a Paralympic ranking system from May 2026 to May 2028. Each arrow in the archery events was a testament to the athletes' preparation and dedication.

Organized by the Romanian Judo Federation and the National Paralympic Committee, the Parasport Games highlight Romania's commitment to inclusivity in sports, fostering an environment where every athlete can pursue their dreams.
