Germany and Romania strengthen ties in renewable energy investment

02 Oct 2026, 10:18

Angela Ganninger, the German Ambassador to Romania, has highlighted a growing interest from German companies in investing in Romania's renewable energy sector. She noted that both solar and wind energy are particularly attractive areas for investment and collaboration, given Romania's favorable natural conditions for renewable energy.

Romania is setting ambitious goals in renewable energy, and Ganninger expressed increasing confidence among investors in the country. She emphasized that German companies are eager to be key partners in Romania's transformation, aligning with the nation's potential in international business promotion programs led by Germany's Federal Ministry of Economics and Energy.

A joint German-Romanian declaration on energy was signed earlier this year, aimed at enhancing cooperation in energy security, efficiency, and renewables. The objective of this declaration is to identify common interests and projects, paving the way for deeper collaboration between the two nations.

Ganninger acknowledged the vital role of the Romanian-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (AHK România), which supports German companies entering the Romanian market. Since 2006, German companies have been the leading foreign investors in Romania, and trade volume between the two countries is projected to reach 42.6 billion euros by 2025.

Looking ahead, Ganninger assured that the cooperation in renewable energy between Germany and Romania will deepen. By combining German technology and expertise with Romania's potential, sustainable economic value can be created.

On October 1, the Romanian Photovoltaic and Storage Industry Association (RPIA) launched the third edition of the Code of Good Practices for Renewable Energy in Romania. The Romanian Wind Energy Association (RWEA) also participated in this launch, underscoring the collaborative efforts in promoting best practices within the renewable energy sector.
