Gheorghe Hagi aims to instill a winning mentality in Romania's national football team

Gheorghe Hagi, the head coach of Romania’s national football team, is committed to building a winning mentality among his players as they prepare for upcoming matches in the UEFA Nations League. He believes that Romania has the potential to become a competitive team, emphasizing the importance of confidence and courage in achieving success.

During a press conference on Wednesday, Hagi outlined his vision for the team, stating that 95% of what he needs is already clear to him. He expressed a desire for the team to approach each match with the mindset of winning, noting that every moment in the four upcoming games could be decisive for their success.

Romania is set to play four matches in the Nations League, starting with an away game against Sweden on September 25. They will then face Bosnia and Herzegovina at home on September 28, followed by another away match against Poland on October 2, and concluding with a home game against Sweden on October 5. Hagi aims for the team to secure all 12 points available from these games.

Hagi has also announced a preliminary list of 48 players for these matches, emphasizing the need for both offensive and defensive excellence. He rejected the notion that Romania lacks valuable players and criticized the negative perceptions surrounding the national team. Hagi is optimistic about the future, recalling that his generation participated in three World Cups and two European Championships within a decade.

He insists that the foundation for success is there, and he is convinced that he can lead the team effectively. Hagi is not viewing his current mandate as a reconstruction but rather as a step towards fostering a winning mentality that he believes takes time to develop. He reiterated the importance of maintaining a strong performance from the first minute to the last in every match.
