More Fathers Taking Parental Leave in Romania

In 2025, approximately 21,700 fathers in Romania took parental leave to care for their newborns, stepping in for mothers. This marks a significant increase in the number of fathers opting for this important role compared to the previous year.

The reasons behind this trend are varied. Many fathers are taking leave for financial reasons, which reflects the changing economic landscape. Others are motivated by a desire to be more involved in the caregiving process, fostering a deeper bond with their children from the very start.

Sociologist Gelu Duminică highlights the societal shift, stating, "It is normal for this to happen; society has changed." This statement underscores the evolving dynamics of parenting in Romania, where shared responsibilities are becoming more commonplace.
