New ammunition factory to create 150 jobs in Târgu Jiu

A significant investment of $25 million is set to revitalize the industrial landscape of Târgu Jiu with the establishment of a new factory dedicated to the production of NATO 155 mm ammunition. This project, a collaboration between Uzina Mecanică Sadu and the American company US Ballistic (USBL), is expected to create approximately 150 jobs in the first two years.

The agreement also outlines a comprehensive infrastructure upgrade within the Uzina Mecanică Sadu facility. Essential repairs will be made to warehouses, roads, and utility networks, ensuring that the infrastructure remains under the ownership of the local company.

Looking ahead, the workforce is projected to increase gradually over the next four years as production ramps up. The investments not only include job creation but also a crucial transfer of technology, which will enhance the industrial capacity of the plant.

As part of the agreement, Uzina Mecanică Sadu will receive around 20 million euros in rent over a ten-year period, with the first year’s payment made in advance. Radu Miruță expressed his enthusiasm about the project, noting that it marks a significant technological leap for the factory and reinforces its role in Romania's defense industry.

Miruță highlighted the dedication that brought this initiative to fruition, acknowledging the efforts that began during his tenure at the Ministry of Economy. He affirmed, 'Sadu revine acolo unde îi este locul: în industria de apărare a României.' This venture not only promises economic growth but also strengthens Romania's position in the global defense sector.
