New bypass around Comarnic enhances traffic flow on DN1
The newly completed bypass around Comarnic spans 6 kilometers and is designed to significantly reduce traffic congestion on the busy DN1 route. This vital road circumvents the town on its western side, ensuring smoother transit for both residents and travelers.
Connecting with DN1 through two strategically placed roundabouts, the bypass not only facilitates easier travel but also complements the future A3 motorway from Ploiești to Brașov. The new road features two lanes and a platform width ranging from 9.5 to 10 meters, enhancing safety and efficiency.
A notable engineering achievement of this project is a 380-meter bridge constructed over the Prahova River and the Ploiești–Brașov railway, alongside three additional new bridges. Additionally, the project includes two short-term parking areas, one for each direction of travel, catering to the needs of drivers.
With a total investment of 470,068,494.45 lei, the project is financed through European funds and the state budget. It is part of broader infrastructure investments in the Prahova Valley, implemented through a partnership between the National Company for Road Infrastructure Administration and the Prahova County Council, formalized in December 2022.
The Comarnic bypass is part of a larger suite of road infrastructure projects along DN1, including the Azuga–Bușteni bypass, which is currently under construction with over 20% of work completed. This ambitious investment also envisions four road overpasses at key points such as Sinaia Sud, Sinaia Nord, Azuga, and Predeal, all of which have finalized their initial design phases, with contracting processes for construction in progress.
To enhance pedestrian safety, five underground pedestrian passages equipped with lifts and escalators are planned, addressing the need to eliminate existing pedestrian crossings. The initial design stages for these underground passages are also complete, demonstrating a comprehensive approach to improving transport infrastructure in the region.
