The Academia Oamenilor de Știință din România has launched an inspiring initiative called ''FEM - Femei în Excelență și Mentorat'', aimed at supporting women at the beginning of their careers and recent graduates. This program was presented on August 24, 2026, and will officially launch on September 10, 2026, during the National Autumn Scientific Conference of AOSR.

Under the theme ''Educație și creativitate științifică în era inteligenței artificiale'', the conference will serve as the backdrop for this significant program. The first cohort consists of 30 young graduates paired with 10 mentors, all of whom are recognized women leaders in their fields. These mentors bring invaluable experience and commitment to the program, which encompasses areas such as science, education, communication, psychology, and art.

Set to run throughout the academic year from September 2026 to June 2027, the FEM program will primarily take place online, ensuring accessibility for all participants. Key moments for follow-up and reevaluation will be integrated into the program, allowing for continuous development and support.

Participation in this program is entirely free for the attendees, with costs covered through sponsorships and partnerships. At the end of the program, a Career Fair will be organized, providing opportunities for the participants to connect with potential employers. Graduates will receive the FEM Distinction, recognizing their achievements upon completion of the program.

Doina Banciu, the president of AOSR, has emphasized that the professional standards of the program exceed traditional frameworks, addressing the rapidly changing job market. The objective of FEM is to prepare a new generation of women ready to face future challenges. This pilot project marks a significant step towards fostering excellence and mentorship among young women in Romania.
