One World Romania launches community initiative to explore urban spaces

In an exciting development for the cultural landscape of Bucharest, the pilot project "One World Romania în cartiere" was launched in 2025 and is set to return this autumn with the new initiative "One World Romania comunități." This program aims to delve into how we live, use, and transform our city's shared spaces.

The "OWR comunități" will host a series of events in cultural venues and urban areas throughout Bucharest, with a special focus on the Titan neighborhood from September 18 to 20. During these three days, the community is invited to participate in guided tours, workshops, film documentary screenings, and extended dialogues that foster a deeper understanding of urban life.

On September 24, film screenings in partnership with F-SIDES Wildcards will take place at the National Museum of Romanian Literature. The lineup includes the documentary films "Iubirea nu e o portocală" (2022) by Otilia Babara and "Podul de flori" (2008) by Thomas Ciulei. Entry to these events is free, but registration is required, and spots are limited.

As part of the ongoing commitment to community engagement, the program will also feature educational sessions for middle and high school students, encouraging dialogue and critical thinking about the films being shown. Additionally, guided tours and hands-on workshops will take place in IOR Park on September 19 and 20, including a gardening workshop and a craft session for children and families.

The project is co-financed by the Bucharest Municipality through ARCUB, which is celebrating 30 years of projects in 2026. Andreea Lăcătuș, the director of the One World Romania Festival, is leading these efforts to strengthen the connection between documentary film and community practices.

In a broader context, the initiative includes the "Curating for Communities" program, where three young individuals will undergo training and mentorship. Applications for this program are open until September 20, providing an opportunity for emerging voices to explore film curation.

As the One World Romania Association continues to champion social dialogue through documentary film, the upcoming events promise to enrich the cultural fabric of Bucharest, inviting residents to engage with their urban environment in meaningful ways.
