Onești set to transform sports facilities with significant investment

23 Aug 2026, 12:27

The city of Onești is on the verge of a major upgrade to its sports infrastructure, with an investment exceeding 122 million lei, approximately 23 million euros, for the modernization of the Municipal Sports Club Base. This ambitious project aims to enhance the local sports environment and is expected to take two years to complete, with the first four months dedicated to the design phase.

The Onești Stadium, which boasts a capacity of 12,000 seats, has been a central hub for local sports since its inauguration in 1991 and subsequent modernization in 1995. With the establishment of Viitorul Onești in 2010, the local community has seen a growing interest in sports and athletics, making this investment timely and essential.

Cseke Attila, the Minister of Development, has highlighted the importance of this investment for the community’s future, especially with the year 2026 in sight. The hopes are high that this project will not only elevate the standards of local sports but also inspire a new generation, reminiscent of historical moments like Nadia Comăneci's iconic performance at the 1976 Montreal Olympics.
