Oradea secures second place at European Tram Drivers Championship
The tram drivers team from Oradea has achieved a remarkable second place at the 12th edition of the European Tram Drivers Championship held in Warsaw on September 19, 2026.
Competing against 26 teams from 24 countries, the Romanian team excelled, finishing strong with 5,820 points, just behind the champions from Prague who scored 6,000 points. Sofia took third place with 5,775 points, showcasing the competitive spirit of the event.
Before the final two cities, Prague and Kiev, entered the competition, Oradea was leading the pack. After an intense day featuring eight tests and 52 races, the determination and skill of the tram drivers were on full display to an audience of thousands.
Mile after mile, the event captivated mii de vizitatori in the heart of Warsaw, while approximately 80,000 viewers tuned in worldwide via live broadcast. This competition not only highlighted the talents of the tram drivers but also fostered camaraderie among participants from different nations.
In individual accolades, Hilda Polamo from Tampere was named the best tram driver in Europe, achieving a top score of 3,035 points. Andrii Bichev from Kiev followed closely with 3,240 points, while Zdeněk Rychtář from Prague garnered 3,175 points.
The success of the Oradea team at this prestigious event serves as a testament to their hard work and dedication, marking a proud moment for Romanian representation on the European stage.
