Over 220,000 Ukrainian Citizens Find Temporary Protection in Romania
In a remarkable demonstration of solidarity, Romania has welcomed over 220,000 Ukrainian citizens under temporary protection since the onset of the conflict in Ukraine. As of August 31, a total of 223,808 individuals have been registered as beneficiaries of this program, with 220,881 of them being Ukrainian nationals, which accounts for an impressive 98.7% of all recipients.
The Inspectorate General for Immigration has played a crucial role in this effort by issuing and reissuing residence permits for those in need. This initiative highlights Romania's commitment to supporting individuals seeking safety and stability during challenging times.
In addition to the temporary protection program, the first eight months of the year saw 935 asylum applications, with 466 of those coming from Ukrainian citizens. This reflects the ongoing challenges faced by individuals in the region and Romania's continued response to provide assistance and refuge.
