Romania Achieves 17th Place in Chess Olympiad

Romania has made a commendable showing at the Chess Olympiad in Uzbekistan, finishing in 17th place in the Open category. This achievement is particularly impressive considering the team started as the 23rd seed, demonstrating their solid and consistent performance at the highest level.

In the Open, Romania secured five victories, five draws, and only one defeat throughout the competition. The gold medal in this category was claimed by Uzbekistan, which boasted an outstanding record of ten victories and just one loss.

The Romanian women's team also ended the tournament in 17th place, achieving seven victories, one draw, and one defeat. The champions in the women's category were China, who had an impressive nine wins and two draws.

Beyond their performance at the Olympiad, Romania ranked 18th out of 187 federations in the Gaprindashvili Cup. This ranking highlights the overall strength and determination of Romanian chess on the international stage.
