Romania advances to the quarter-finals of EuroVolley 2026

Romania has made a remarkable achievement by qualifying for the quarter-finals of EuroVolley 2026, marking this milestone for the second consecutive edition. The team secured their spot with a decisive 3-0 victory over Ukraine, showcasing their determination and skill on the court.

The match took place on Sunday in Sofia, where Romania triumphed with scores of 25-22, 25-21, and 30-28. This victory is particularly impressive considering that Ukraine is currently ranked 10th in the world, while Romania holds the 25th spot. Alexandru Rață led the scoring for Romania with 16 points, followed by Cristian-Daniel Chițigoi, who contributed 11 points.

The atmosphere in the arena was vibrant, with 544 spectators cheering on the team. Romania's journey to the quarter-finals included victories over Switzerland and Turkey, both with scores of 3-1, and a thrilling 3-2 win against France. Despite setbacks against Latvia and Germany in the group stage, the team's resilience shone through.

Looking ahead, Romania is set to face the winner of the match between France and Portugal in the quarter-finals, scheduled for September 22 in Sofia. The team's head coach, Sergiu Stancu, expressed his enthusiasm about the progress, stating that "volleyball is in good hands" and highlighting the incredible atmosphere created by fans during the matches.

With a strong showing at EuroVolley and a seventh-place finish in the previous edition, Romania continues to build momentum in European volleyball, aiming for even greater success on the international stage.
