Romania aims for 10 GW of solar and wind energy by 2030

Romania is setting ambitious goals for its energy future, targeting the installation of 10 gigawatts of solar and wind power by the end of the decade. This initiative reflects a strong commitment to renewable energy and sustainability in the face of rising electricity prices, which are currently the highest in Europe.

Cristian Bușoi, the Secretary of State in the Ministry of Energy, emphasized the importance of energy efficiency in buildings during a specialized conference organized by AHK România. He highlighted the concept of Nearly Zero-Energy Buildings (NZEBs) as a crucial part of Romania's energy strategy.

The recent funding programs are designed to support businesses participating in the EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS), with a new financing scheme amounting to 150 million euros. This is part of a broader effort, including over 40 projects co-financed through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), with investments totaling 64 million euros.

Romania has a significant project within the PNRR exceeding 200 million euros and has also launched 30 projects funded by the Modernization Fund. Looking ahead, projects must be completed by 2030, with the last calls for submissions expected to start by 2028.

In a related note, the Bank of Romania is celebrating 190 years since the birth of Eugeniu Carada with a commemorative banknote to be issued on September 14. This reflects a broader historical recognition amid economic challenges, including rising corporate debts, which have reached 77.6 billion lei in the second quarter, affecting over 48,000 firms.
