Romania secures a 10% budget increase for the next seven years
Romania will receive 66 billion euros over the next seven years, marking a significant increase of 10% compared to the previous budget. This funding will support the country's growth and development as it moves forward in a challenging European landscape.
Siegfried Mureșan, co-rapporteur for the European Union's multiannual budget, plays a crucial role in these negotiations. He has highlighted the importance of this increased budget, stating that it is essential for the EU to address pressing issues in security and defense.
In contrast, six EU member states, including Austria, the Netherlands, Sweden, Germany, Denmark, and Finland, are advocating for a reduction in the EU budget. Mureșan believes these calls are misguided, emphasizing that a larger budget is necessary to meet the challenges facing the Union.
The current EU budget period runs from 2021 to 2027, and discussions are already underway for the budget starting January 1, 2028. Mureșan has warned that negotiations will be tough as they contend with the opposing views of those who seek to cut funding.
