Romania shines at Balkan Olympiad in Informatics with four medals

Romania has made a remarkable impact at the 33rd Balkan Olympiad in Informatics, securing a total of four medals. This impressive achievement includes one gold medal, two silver medals, and one bronze medal, showcasing the talents of young Romanian informatics students.

The competition took place in Tirana, Albania, from September 14 to 20, gathering over 75 students from 18 countries. Romania's standout performer was Ștefan-Cătălin Savu, a student at Colegiul Național 'Ion Luca Caragiale' Ploiești, who earned the coveted gold medal. Meanwhile, Matei Neacșu, Cezar-Luca Mironov, and Luca-Valentin Mureșan, all students at Liceul Teoretic Internațional de Informatică București, contributed to the medal tally with silver and bronze medals.

The Romanian team was guided by leaders prof. Szabo Zoltan, an inspector at Inspectoratul Școlar Județean Mureș, and Bogdan-Ioan Popa, a teacher at Liceul Teoretic 'Just 4 Kids' in Bucharest. Their support and mentorship were crucial in helping the students excel in this prestigious international competition.

The event featured participants from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Greece, Italy, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia, and Turkey, with invited countries including Saudi Arabia, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, and Ukraine.

The Romanian Ministry of Education and Research actively supports the participation of national teams in international olympiads by covering participation fees, travel costs, and providing daily allowances for students during their stays. They also organize local, county, municipal, and national stages of competitions, fostering a strong environment for young talents in Romania.
