Romania shines at the Balkan Olympiad in Informatics for Juniors with top national performance

Romania has claimed the top spot at the Balkan Olympiad in Informatics for Juniors (JBOI) 2026, showcasing the remarkable talent of its young students.

The country secured three gold medals and one bronze at the competition held from September 22 to 28, 2026, in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Among the standout performers was Andrei Nemțișor, an eighth grader from Colegiul Național 'Costache Negruzzi' in Iași, who achieved an absolute gold medal.

Joining him in excellence were two fellow gold medalists: Traian Danciu, a seventh grader from Liceul Teoretic Internațional de Informatică in Bucharest, and Vlad Bondoc, also in the eighth grade from the same school.

Vlad Ioan Muntoiu, another eighth grader from Colegiul Național de Informatică 'Constantin Diaconovici Loga' in Timișoara, proudly brought home a bronze medal. Their achievements reflect not only their hard work but also the support of their educational institutions.

Leading the team was Professor Eugen Nodea from the Centrul Județean de Excelență Gorj in Târgu Jiu, serving as the team leader, while Ioan-Cristian Pop, a student at Universitatea Politehnica București, took on the role of deputy leader. Together, they guided Romania’s 55 competitors from 13 countries to a remarkable performance.

The Ministerul Educației și Cercetării has communicated the results, highlighting the successful coordination of the event through its Direcția Olimpiade, Concursuri, Parteneriate și Educație Extracurriculară. This achievement not only underscores Romania's prowess in the field of informatics but also inspires future generations of young minds.
