Romania surpasses environmental milestone with over 5,000 digital recycling islands

Romania has achieved a significant environmental milestone by successfully digitalizing 5,091 ecological islands. This accomplishment surpasses the target set in the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), highlighting the country’s commitment to sustainable waste management.

The investment in this initiative amounts to over 70 million euros, announced by the Ministry of Environment. The ecological islands, which have been implemented across 36 counties, play a crucial role in managing and collecting various types of waste, including paper, cardboard, plastics, metals, glass, and biodegradable materials.

Counties such as Bacău, Bihor, Arad, Cluj, and Constanța are leading the way with many modern waste recycling installations. These counties are setting a positive example in the realm of sustainability and environmental responsibility, showcasing the potential of collective efforts towards a greener future.

The successful completion of these digitalized ecological islands not only contributes to enhanced waste management practices but also fosters a culture of recycling within communities.
