Romania is set to make a strong showing at the inaugural World Rowing Shanghai Sprints, participating with six boats in this exciting new event. The competition, which will take place on September 26 and 27, 2026, will feature athletes from eight teams, including seven national squads and a world team.

The Romanian team includes talented rowers such as Magdalena Rusu, Amalia Chelaru, Marian Enache, and Ciprian Tudosă. The delegation also features promising young athletes like Cristina Drugă, Andrada Moroșanu, Claudiu Neamțu, and Andrei Mândrilă, showcasing the depth of talent in Romanian rowing.

The competition will consist of six events: two women's, two men's, and two mixed races, with five of these being rowing events over a 500-meter distance. This fast-paced format promises to deliver thrilling races in the heart of Shanghai, a city that recently hosted the World Championships.

A total of 88 athletes will compete, with notable participants including Olympic champion Marian Enache, who won gold at the Paris 2024 Olympics in double sculls, and Stefanos Ntouskos, an Olympic and world champion competing for the World Team. The Netherlands team, who topped the medal table at the recent World Championships in Amsterdam, will also be in attendance.

The Shanghai Sprints aims to become an annual event, supported by the Shanghai Sports Administration and the Chinese Rowing Federation, with a commitment from World Rowing for a minimum of five editions by 2030. This new platform not only elevates the sport but also offers cash prizes for the competitors, adding to the allure of the competition.
