Romania to Host Men's European Volleyball Championship After 63 Years

Romania is set to make a significant return to the international volleyball scene by hosting the Men's European Volleyball Championship for the first time in 63 years. The tournament will kick off on September 9, 2026, with Romania facing Latvia in a much-anticipated opening match at BTarena in Cluj-Napoca, starting at 20:00.

The national team is grouped in Group D alongside formidable opponents France, Germany, and Turkey. Romania's volleyball history includes a shining moment in 1963 when the team secured its only gold medal at the European Championship. As they prepare for the upcoming games, the players and coaching staff are focused on building a competitive team.

Romania's head coach, Sergiu Stancu, has been working with the squad, which includes rising star Bela Bartha, who is 25 years old. In the lead-up to the championship, the team has played seven friendly matches, showcasing their determination and readiness.
