Romania to Host World Championship Division I Group B in 2027

In an exciting development for sports enthusiasts, Romania will host the World Championship Division I Group B in 2027. The matches will take place at the ice rink in Târgu Mureș from May 1 to May 7, bringing together some of the best national teams from around the globe.

This decision was made during the Semiannual Congress of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF), held in Tenerife, Spain, from September 29 to October 3. It marks a significant achievement for Romania, as this will be the second senior world championship hosted by the country in just three years.

The tournament will feature six national teams: Japan, China, Romania, South Korea, Spain, and the Netherlands. Romania previously hosted the Division I Group A senior world championship in 2025 in Sfântu Gheorghe, showcasing its growing prominence in the ice hockey community.

Adding to its legacy, Romania has also organized two youth and junior world championships: the U20 Division II/A in Bucharest and the U18 Division II/A in Târgu Secuiesc. These events highlight Romania's commitment to fostering ice hockey at all levels.
