Romanian Bars Shine in European Rankings

Four bars from Romania have made it to the prestigious list of the top 100 bars in Europe, showcasing the country's vibrant nightlife and unique cultural offerings.

Leading the pack is a bar from Timișoara, which has impressively secured the 22nd spot. Established by a group of actors, this local gem features a basement museum dedicated to the communist era, providing a captivating glimpse into Romania's history.

The museum houses a reconstituted apartment from the communist period, along with a collection of radios, toys, records, and household items that reflect the consumer habits of the time. This unique combination of a bar and museum enriches the experience for patrons and highlights the city's cultural narrative.

Cluj's cultural center has earned the 69th position in the rankings, while a historic bar in the capital, established in the 19th century, proudly stands at number 43. This bar is renowned for its stunning neo-Gothic interior, beautiful stained glass windows, and impressive frescoes, attracting many foreign visitors.

One tourist from Portugal praised this bar for its uniqueness, particularly highlighting its stained glass and the availability of its own unfiltered beer. He noted that such beer is hard to find elsewhere, further emphasizing the bar's distinct offerings.

The rankings were compiled by the European Bar Guide, an independent online guide founded nine years ago, which evaluated 1,600 establishments based on criteria such as drink quality, decor, atmosphere, events, and value for money. The top spot is held by a bar in Budapest, known for hosting a local producers' market every Sunday and offering concerts and film screenings.
