Romania's Commitment to Peaceful Nuclear Cooperation at IAEA General Conference

Oana Ţoiu leads Romania's delegation at the upcoming IAEA General Conference in Vienna, showcasing the country's dedication to international nuclear cooperation for peaceful purposes.

Taking place from September 14 to 18, 2026, this significant event will bring together over 3,000 participants from 182 countries, highlighting the global commitment to nuclear safety and non-proliferation.

Romania, holding a role on the IAEA Board of Governors, reaffirms its commitment to maintaining the highest security standards and actively supports IAEA inspection missions.

During the conference, Ţoiu and her team, which includes specialists from the Ministry of Energy and relevant technical institutions, will engage in bilateral talks. Discussions are scheduled with Rafael Mariano Grossi, the IAEA Director General, focusing on investments and regulations to accelerate nuclear projects.

The Romanian delegation will also hold consultations with representatives from the United States, Canada, Switzerland, Hungary, Belgium, Argentina, and Turkey.

Romania's national investment objectives include doubling the capacity of the CNE Cernavodă through the retrofitting of Unit 1, constructing Reactors 3 and 4, and advancing projects for small modular reactors (SMR) in collaboration with the United States and the European consortium Eagles, which also includes Italy and Belgium.

Additionally, a trilateral partnership with France and Canada aims to stimulate the production of medical radioisotopes, further demonstrating Romania's focus on innovative nuclear applications for health and safety.
