Romania's Expanding Highway Network Offers Significant Time Savings for Drivers

The recent opening of 47 kilometers of the Moldova Highway between Adjud and Bacău marks a significant milestone in Romania's journey toward a more efficient road network. With this addition, drivers now have nearly 1,500 kilometers of highways and express roads at their disposal.

This expanded network not only enhances connectivity but also provides substantial time savings for travelers. The journey between Bucharest and Bacău can now be completed in approximately two and a half hours, with busy days seeing savings of up to two hours compared to the old DN2 route.

In addition to the Bucharest-Bacău route, nearly 470 kilometers of express roads and highways connect Craiova to Constanța, while approximately 140 kilometers of continuous highway stretch between the capital and Curtea de Argeș. The highway network currently spans about 1,476 kilometers, a notable achievement as Romania surpassed the 1,000-kilometer milestone in September 2023.

However, the network is still a work in progress. The Bucharest-Sibiu route cannot yet be completed entirely on the highway, and portions of the Transylvania Highway remain separate. Moreover, the A0, the capital's express beltway, does not yet form a complete ring.

As Romania works towards completing its highway network, the progress made so far is encouraging, reflecting the country’s commitment to improving infrastructure and enhancing travel experiences for everyone.
