Romania's Honey Production Sees Significant Growth with 7,000 Tones Increase

In an encouraging trend for local apiculture, honey production in Romania has increased by 7,000 tons, bringing the total output to between 15,000 and 17,000 tons. This remarkable growth comes after last year's production was below 10,000 tons, showcasing a significant turnaround in the sector.

Viorel Popa, an apiculturist with 500 bee families, has embraced the digital age by selling his honey online. He noted that the price of acacia honey has dropped to 50 lei per kilogram, down from 60 lei in 2025. This represents a 20-25% decrease compared to last year, making it more accessible for consumers.

Alexandru Popa has echoed these sentiments, estimating that the price of acacia honey could fall to between 36-40 lei in the coming two months. This price reduction reflects the abundant production and favorable market conditions.

Răzvan Coman, president of the Beekeepers Association, confirmed that the production of acacia honey has doubled compared to last year, thanks in part to excellent weather conditions for nectar formation. Sara Talpoș, another apiculturist, highlighted that the temperatures have been ideal for this year’s honey yield.

According to the National Institute of Statistics, the average Romanian consumed 1.3 kg of honey last year. However, the country's honey imports have surged, exceeding 17 million euros in 2025, indicating a growing demand for honey products across the nation.
