Romania's Trade Surplus with the USA Reaches New Heights

In 2025, Romania celebrated a remarkable achievement as its trade relations with the United States surpassed $7.8 billion, marking a significant milestone in bilateral commerce. Notably, Romania recorded a trade surplus, with exports reaching $5 billion while imports totaled $2.8 billion.

This surge in exports stands in stark contrast to the $3.4 billion reported in 2021, showcasing a steady growth trajectory. The primary categories of goods exported from Romania to the U.S. include industrial equipment, automotive products, consumer goods, IT services, and business services, reflecting a diversified economic relationship.

Romania's current trading volume positions it ahead of Lithuania, which has approximately $5.2 billion in trade with the U.S., as well as Bulgaria and Slovenia, both around $4 billion. Croatia follows with about $3 billion, while Poland, Hungary, and the Czech Republic have significantly higher trade figures at $39 billion, $8 billion, and $16.6 billion, respectively.

The data points to a gradual diversification of Romania's economic ties with the United States, suggesting that there is ample room for further cooperation in industries such as technology and services, as well as within transatlantic supply chains. This evolving partnership lays the groundwork for continued growth and collaboration in the years to come.
