Scatec ASA expands renewable energy footprint with new wind and solar projects in Romania

Scatec ASA is making significant strides in renewable energy by expanding its capacity in Romania, including the acquisition of a 77 MW wind farm from OX2. The Urleasca wind farm will feature 11 Nordex N175/6.X MW turbines, with operations expected to commence in the second half of 2028.

The company aims to triple its global energy generation capacity to 11 Gigawatts by 2028. Currently, Scatec has 3 Gigawatts either active or under construction, showcasing its commitment to sustainable energy solutions. Terje Pilskog, the CEO of Scatec, emphasizes the potential of developing renewable projects that support the electric grid.

In addition to wind energy, Scatec is also focusing on solar energy projects in Romania. The European Investment Bank has allocated 34 million euros to support the development of three solar parks in the southwest, which will have a combined capacity of 190 megawatts. Scatec holds a 65% stake in these solar companies, with Defic Globe BV owning the remaining 35%.

The company is constructing wind, solar, and energy storage projects in Romania, with a total capacity of approximately 350 MW. Production from these projects is anticipated to start next year, reflecting Romania's growing attractiveness for large-scale battery solutions. As new renewable projects are developed, they will also incorporate necessary storage facilities to enhance efficiency and reliability.

Looking ahead, Scatec estimates that it will reach financial closure for three large-scale projects in Egypt within the next six months, further solidifying its position as a leader in the renewable energy sector.
