Timișoara set to welcome a new stadium after 63 years

Timișoara is on the brink of a significant transformation in its sports landscape, as the city prepares to unveil the new Stadionul „Eroii Timișoarei” following 63 years without a modern arena. With a total investment of 23 million euros, this new facility will have a capacity of 10,100 spectators and is set to enhance the local sports experience.

Construction on the stadium began in March 2024, and after two and a half years of dedicated work, it is nearing completion. The installation of the grass pitch commenced in the week of September 23, 2026, marking a crucial step towards finalizing the project by the end of the year.

Located on a 9,000 square meter plot, the stadium will include a parking area with 450 spaces, alongside a new park designed to complement the venue. This modern arena meets category 4 standards as per UEFA and IFAB requirements, ensuring it will host a variety of events in the future.

Dominic Fritz, the mayor of Timișoara, made the announcement about the stadium's progress on his personal Facebook page, sharing his excitement for the project with the community. Alfred Simonis, the president of the Timiș County Council, is also instrumental in overseeing this significant development.

While the new stadium will not be available for the current season, Timișoara's football team, Poli, continues to play at the “Electrica” stadium, currently positioned second in the league with 20 points after the first three rounds. Additionally, plans are in motion for a larger stadium, named „Dan Păltinișanu”, which is expected to cost approximately 115 million euros and will boast a capacity of 32,000 seats, making it the second largest in Romania after Arena Națională.
