Barnabas Vas triumphs at Turul României 2026
Barnabas Vas has made headlines by winning the prestigious Turul României 2026. The Hungarian cyclist, representing Team United Shipping, showcased his exceptional skills by clinching two of the five stages of the competition.
Vas's victory came after a remarkable performance, particularly in the third stage, where he completed the challenging 200 km route from Piatra Neamț to Băile Balvanyos. He followed this up with another impressive win in the fourth stage, which spanned 165 km from Brașov to Ploiești. His consistent speed allowed him to finish with a lead of 13 seconds over Cristian Răileanu, who secured second place in the overall standings.
Completing the podium was Andras Pakot, who crossed the finish line 22 seconds behind Vas. Răileanu also earned the blue jersey for the best Romanian cyclist in the race, marking a significant achievement for him as well. Meanwhile, Denis Piciu finished in ninth place, just 58 seconds off the lead.
In addition to winning the overall race, Barnabas Vas claimed multiple jerseys: the green jersey for the best climber, the white jersey with red polka dots for the points classification winner, and the white jersey for the best cyclist under 23 years old. His versatility and endurance were on full display throughout the competition.
The final stage of the race concluded in a thrilling sprint, where Radoslaw Frątczak emerged victorious in the fifth stage. This stage took place on the urban streets of Bucharest, covering a distance of 100 kilometers. Frątczak recorded a time of 2 hours, 0 minutes, and 27 seconds, finishing ahead of Andras Pakot and Christopher Ringkjoep Bruun.
The journey of Turul României 2026 began with a 160-kilometer stage in the Republic of Moldova, where Radoslaw Frątczak also claimed victory. Overall, the event has been a celebration of cycling excellence, showcasing the talents of both local and international riders.
