Serafima Moscalu wins bronze at Grand Slam in Budapest

Serafima Moscalu has made her mark by winning a bronze medal in the 70 kg category at the Grand Slam in Budapest. The competition took place on Saturday, September 13, 2026, and showcased her talent and determination.

In her journey to the podium, Moscalu triumphed over Tayla Grauer in the first round, followed by a victory against Giorgia Stangherlin in the round of 16. She continued her impressive performance by defeating Michaela Polleres in the quarter-finals before facing a tough opponent in the semi-finals, where she lost to Elisavet Teltsidou, the eventual gold medalist.

Determined to secure a medal, Moscalu faced Ingrid Nilsson in the bronze match, emerging victorious and clinching the bronze for Romania. This achievement is a testament to her hard work and dedication.

The Grand Slam attracted a strong field of 504 judoka from 67 countries, including 308 men and 196 women. Romania was well represented with nine judoka competing, four in the men's categories and five in the women's. Other Romanian competitors included Alex Creț (90 kg), Rareș Arsenie (100 kg), and Maidelines Gorguet-Veranes (78 kg).

While Ioan Dzițac also represented Romania, he reached the round of 16 after victories over Aron Szabo and Irakli Goginashivili but was unable to advance further. Robert Boldiș faced a similar fate, losing in the round of 16 to Benedek Toth. Despite some setbacks, Serafima Moscalu's achievement stands out as a proud moment for Romanian judo.
