Florești welcomes Romania's first new museum since 1989

The ambitious MuTRA - Galeria Istorică has opened its doors in Florești, marking a significant milestone as the first museum built from the ground up in Romania since 1989. This impressive establishment, inaugurated by the Muzeul Național de Istorie a Transilvaniei (MNIT), is a testament to the country's commitment to cultural development.

Constructed on a generous 15,583 square meters of land, the MuTRA boasts a substantial usable area of 11,344 square meters spread across three levels. This modern museum has been designed to encompass all the functionalities expected of contemporary museums, setting a new standard in the region.

The investment in MuTRA amounted to 145 million lei, with approximately 53% of the funding sourced from PNRR funds and the remaining 47% provided by the Romanian state. The construction of the building was completed in just one year, showcasing the efficient use of resources and commitment to the project.

Inside, visitors will find an expansive exhibition space of nearly 2,500 square meters, complemented by large storage facilities and laboratories dedicated to conservation and restoration. Additionally, MuTRA will serve as a hub for educational and social activities, featuring spaces for pedagogical engagement and community interaction.

The museum also includes an amphitheater, a large conference room suitable for film screenings, as well as administrative offices. With these diverse offerings, MuTRA is poised to become a vibrant center for history and culture in Romania, fulfilling the needs of both local residents and visitors alike. The project's success reflects the vision of Felix Marcu, the manager of MNIT, and the support of Andras Demeter, the interim Minister of Culture.
