Romania invests over 100 billion lei in first half of 2026

Romania has made a significant investment, allocating over 100 billion lei in the first six months of 2026. This achievement marks a nearly 12% increase in investments compared to the same period last year.

According to provisional data released on September 14, net investments during this period reached 100.5 billion lei, up from 83.2 billion lei in the first half of 2025. After adjusting for price increases, the real volume of investments has grown by 11.9%.

A large portion of these funds, nearly two-thirds, has been directed towards new construction projects. The share of investments in construction has risen from 62.8% last year to 65.8% in 2026, reflecting a robust growth of 16.9% in real terms.

Investments in equipment and transport means have also seen notable growth, increasing by 18.5% in the first semester compared to the same period in 2025. In the second quarter alone, investments reached 59.7 billion lei, a significant rise from 46.5 billion lei in the second quarter of the previous year.

The real growth rate in the second quarter was 17.8%, with new construction investments experiencing an impressive increase of 21.5%. Meanwhile, investments in machinery and transport grew by 18.1%.

However, spending on other types of investment expenditures has decreased, dropping by 6.9%. The category of 'other investment expenditures' fell by 25.4% in real terms during the first half of the year, with its share of total investments declining from 12.4% to 8.4%.
