Romania reports 1.2% growth in service production amid EU declines

In a positive turn of events, Romania has recorded a 1.2% increase in service production for June, standing out among EU countries where service production generally declined. This growth comes after a previous drop of 0.7% in May, showcasing resilience in the Romanian economy.

While the European Union saw a decrease of 0.2% in service production and the eurozone faced a 0.3% decline in the same month, Romania’s performance reflects a contrasting trend. The data, released by Eurostat, highlights that Romania is one of the few member states to experience growth.

Luxembourg led the pack with an impressive 7.8% increase in service production, followed by Portugal at 3.1%, and Lithuania at 2.6%. Other notable increases were observed in Greece (2.4%), the Netherlands (1.5%), Slovenia (1.4%), and Estonia (1.2%).

In Romania, certain segments contributed to this growth, particularly in the 'transport and storage' sector, which grew by 2.4%. The 'information and communication' sector also saw significant improvement with a 4.9% increase across the EU, indicating a broader recovery in these specific areas.

Despite the overall downturn in the EU, Romania’s growth trajectory is encouraging. As service production in the country continues to rise, it contrasts sharply with the most severe declines experienced in Latvia (-3.7%), Germany (-2.1%), and Bulgaria (-1.1%).

Overall, while some sectors are struggling, Romania’s positive performance serves as a hopeful sign of economic resilience and recovery in the face of broader challenges within the EU.
