Romania welcomes a surge in foreign tourists this July

Romania experienced a remarkable increase in foreign tourism this July, welcoming 315,200 international visitors. This marks a significant growth of 20.4% compared to the same month in 2025, contributing positively to the overall tourism landscape in the country.

In total, tourist accommodations in Romania recorded 1.931 million arrivals, reflecting a 6.2% increase from July 2025. The number of overnight stays reached 4.739 million, indicating a 6.1% rise compared to the same month last year. Notably, the number of nights spent by foreign tourists surged by 21.7%, reaching 640,800.

The influx of European tourists led the way, with a 17.5% increase in arrivals. Additionally, there was a remarkable 47.2% rise in visitors from Asia, who also increased their overnight stays by 50.9%. Tourists from North America contributed significantly as well, with arrivals up by 24.8% and overnight stays increasing by 30.4%.

Despite the rising number of foreign tourists, Romanian travelers reduced their vacations, with 1.616 million domestic arrivals recorded in July, a 3.9% increase compared to 2025. The total nights spent by Romanians also grew by 4%, reaching 4.098 million.

In terms of locations, Bucharest attracted the most visitors, with 1.095 million arrivals, while Constanța and Brașov followed closely with 1.029 million and 724,000 arrivals, respectively. Bucharest also led in overnight stays, with 2.248 million recorded.

Interestingly, 70.7% of foreign tourists chose to visit Bucharest and regional capitals, while only 2.9% were drawn to the coastal resorts, specifically Constanța. For Romanian tourists, 35% opted for seaside resorts, and 15% preferred mountain destinations.

Overall, from January to July, Romania registered 7.488 million arrivals, although this reflects a slight decline of 1.6% compared to the same period last year. The occupancy rate for accommodation in July was 38%, slightly lower than in July 2025, indicating room for further growth in the tourism sector.
