Strengthening Ties: Romania and Chile Focus on Bilateral Cooperation

Cristina Prună, president of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with the Republic of Chile, recently met with Alex Wetzig, the newly appointed Ambassador of Chile in Romania. This meeting, held at the Parliament of Romania, marked an important step in enhancing the relationship between the two nations.

The discussions centered on strengthening bilateral relations and cooperation across various areas of mutual interest. These include economic and commercial relations, the implementation of the EU-Chile advanced framework agreement, and collaboration in start-up ecosystems, renewable energy, cybersecurity, agriculture, academic exchanges, and joint research projects.

Prună expressed her commitment to continuing the parliamentary dialogue that began a year and a half ago, noting that this cooperation has already produced tangible results, such as the adoption of a Chilean-inspired project on cybersecurity. She emphasized the need to facilitate connections between Romania and Chile to transform opportunities into concrete projects.

Acknowledging the productive collaboration with former Chilean ambassador Julio Antonio Bravo Iubini, Prună stressed the importance of continuity in the projects and partnerships that have already been established. Both parties agreed on the necessity of maintaining constant dialogue and fostering contacts between experts and counterpart parliamentary forums.

The ultimate goal of these discussions is to advance the initiatives outlined, paving the way for a stronger and more productive relationship between Romania and Chile.
