Tourism in Romania sees a notable rise in July 2026

In July 2026, Romania welcomed 1.931 million tourists, a 6.2% increase compared to the previous year. This growth is reflected not just in arrivals but also in overnight stays, which rose by 6.1% to reach 4.738 million.

Local tourists made up the majority, accounting for 83.7% of the total arrivals, while foreign visitors represented 16.3%. Among foreign tourists, the highest numbers came from Germany, Italy, and the USA, with 145,800, 123,400, and 101,300 visitors, respectively.

The average length of stay varied slightly between locals and foreigners, with Romanian tourists staying an average of 2.5 days, compared to 2 days for their international counterparts. Overall, the average stay for all tourists in the first seven months of 2026 was 2.1 days.

From January to July 2026, a total of 7.487 million tourists arrived in Romania. Of these, 79.9% were Romanian, while foreign tourists accounted for 20.1%. Overnight stays during this period reached 15.543 million, with Romanian tourists again dominating at 79.9%.

In terms of accommodation, the total number of registered structures was 9,523, including 6,824 apartments and rooms for rent. However, the net occupancy rate for tourist accommodations was at 26% for the first seven months, reflecting a decrease of 2.3 percentage points from the same period in 2025.

In July alone, 2.903 accommodation units were undergoing major repairs, and 1.616 units did not complete the necessary surveys for various reasons. Despite these challenges, the Ministry of Economy, Digitalization, Entrepreneurship and Tourism authorized the list of accommodation structures on June 10, 2026.

Key destinations for tourists included Bucharest, with 1.095 million arrivals, followed by Constanța at 1.028 million, and Brașov at 724,000. The number of overnight stays in Constanța was particularly high at 3.101 million, while Bucharest recorded 2.248 million and Brașov 1.378 million.
