Tulcea's New Venue Hosts Exciting Volleyball Supercup and FIBA Competition
The recent Supercupa României took place at the newest Polivalentă Hall in Romania, located in Tulcea, marking a significant milestone for the region. Approximately 3,000 fans flocked to the venue on Saturday, October 18, 2026, to witness thrilling matches between top volleyball teams.
In the men's final, Dinamo București triumphed over SCM Zalău with a convincing score of 3-0, showcasing their skill with sets of 25-16, 25-19, and 25-16. This victory marks Dinamo's third Supercupă title in history, having previously won in 2021 and 2022. Unfortunately for SCM Zalău, this was their second loss in the competition's final, following a previous defeat in 2017.
The women’s final saw CSO Voluntari achieve a similar feat, defeating Volei Alba Blaj also with a 3-0 scoreline, with set scores of 25-21, 30-28, and 25-16. The excitement of the event highlighted the capacity of the Polivalentă Hall, which can accommodate 4,670 spectators and features modern amenities including a main competition court, a training court, and facilities for teams and media.
The Polivalentă Hall, which cost €25 million to build, has quickly become a hub for sporting events. Earlier in August, it hosted the FIBA U18 Women’s EuroBasket 2026 - Division B, where Romania reached the finals but lost to Israel 66-85. Remarkably, all matches featuring the Romanian team attracted at least 4,000 spectators, and the last two games were sold out, illustrating the growing popularity of women's basketball in the region.
Kamil Novak, the executive director of FIBA Europe, remarked on the unique atmosphere of the event, emphasizing the community's enthusiasm for junior women's basketball. As the fifth-largest venue in Romania, the Polivalentă Hall is set to play an important role in the future of sports in Tulcea and beyond.
